Substance Misuse Counselling
We provide free specialist counselling to help reduce or stop misuse of alcohol or drugs. The Counsellors use a range of approaches, depending on the individual, which may focus on prevention, where an individual may be at risk of substance misuse; recovery for individuals who are ready to make changes to their substance use; and person-centred counselling to explore the underlying issues contributing to the substance use.
For every person affected by drugs/alcohol, research has shown that 11 members of their family and friends may be affected. Children and families affected by a loved one’s substance misuse can also access a range of other specialist services and support.
Single Session Therapy
All new counselling clients are offered a single session of therapy, free of charge, within a week of referral (unless this is not appropriate to the individual’s circumstances). Following this session, clients who need further therapy will be placed on the waiting list for counselling.
Single Session Therapy involves a client and therapist (counsellor) working together with the intention of addressing a specific problem or concern to help the client move forward, with the knowledge that more help and support is available if needed. For more information about this approach…
