WHEN PARENTS SEPARATE

Deciding to separate is a very difficult time, and it’s important to think about what, when and how you tell your children about what’s happening. This will depend on their ages and the circumstances surrounding the separation. You can find advice here.

What children need

  • To know that they still have two parents who love them and are able to look after them
  • To be listened to by their parents
  • To be kept out of their parents’ fight
  • To be allowed to love all the people who are important to them
